Chilly Chaotic Ceilidh

28 June 2010

Maybe it was the chilly weather, maybe it was the increased consumption of Irn Bru, but Saturday night was one of our most energetic Chaotic Ceilidhs. Chris and Catherine delivered yet another fabulous night of music and there were virtually no wall flowers, with everyone on the floor having a brilliant time.

Photos from the event can be found on Flickr or our Facebook page.

Macquarie Era elegance meets Scots on The Rocks exuberance

23 May 2010

Scots on The Rocks ceilidhs never fail to deliver, and Saturday's Grand Ceilidh was no exception.

Held as part of the NSW Government's Macquarie 2010 Bicentenary celebrations, the Grand Ceilidh combined fantastic music, food, entertainment and of course dancing.

Petersham Town Hall, a new venue for this year, proved to be a great space for dancing, and everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks as always to Chris Duncan and Catherine Strutt for great music, Cathryn Collins our MC and dance wrangler for the evening, and all our performers and guests. Photos now on our photos page.

A ceilidh of chaotic proportions

28 March 2010

Last night was our first chaotic ceilidh for 2010. With another sold out crowd, a great time was had by all, despite the somewhat sticky conditions.

Once again we were entertained with great music from Chris Duncan and Catherine Strutt, and led through all the dances by Cathy and Robert from Scots on The Rocks.

Photos from the night can be found on our photos page, and on Facebook.

That was the year that was ...

23 December 2009

The last dances for 2009 have been danced, and its time to look back on another great year at Scots on The Rocks.

In 2009 we ran four courses for new dancers, three Chaotic Ceilidhs, a Winter Workshop and a glittering Grand Ceilidh.

Scots on The Rocks members were also very well represented at numerous RSCDS and other Sydney club events throughout the year.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank every single one of our wonderful teachers, our new dancers, and of course all of the Scots on The Rocks members for making it such a memorable year of dancing! See you all for more fun in 2010!

Scottish Country Dancing is good for your brain!

15 December 2009

Scottish Country Dancing was named as one of the more unexpected ways people stimulate their brain on SBS's Insight program on 3rd November.

According to Dr Michael Valenzeula, activities like dancing combine mental activity, social activity and physical activity which optimise brain health - something that most dancers would heartily agree with.

Visit the SBS website to watch the program online (see if you can spot any familiar Sydney dancers), or read the transcript of the segment.

Around the club this month

21 June 2009

We have several reasons for congratulations this month. After much anticipation and a nervous wait, we can all wish Jan McCudden congratulations on receiving a straight A pass on her RSCDS Teachers exam. Jan will be teaching our August beginners course with Ruth Pike.

Congratulations also to Helen Creasey AM on her inclusion on the honours list for service to medicine as a geriatrician and neurologist and through advisory roles with professional and community organisations.

We would also all like to wish Morag Napier a speedy recovery, and hope to see her back at Fort Street soon.

Chaos reigns supreme

21 June 2009

A great night was had by all at our June Chaotic Ceilidh. Once again the rain came down and dampened everything except our spirits. We enjoyed another great night of music from Chris Duncan and Catherine Strutt, and hope to see many of our first time dancers again in September.
